Hi there! Today, I'm thrilled to have Darcy back with us from the Advisors Circle. She recently dropped by to share her favorite patterns from Oliver + S and her own Liesl + Co. Terrace Dress. Now, she's here to teach us how to add a touch of creativity to the Cartwheel Wrap Dress through color blocking. Let’s dive in, Darcy!

Hello everyone! It's great to be here again and share an exciting tweak you can make to your Cartwheel Wrap Dress to give it that extra special touch—color blocking! For this project, I chose solid-colored fabrics, but you can absolutely experiment with patterned fabrics for a vibrant, playful look.

To start, I began with a pattern that I’d already tested and knew fit perfectly for my daughter. I used a size 4 as a base and extended it by adding 3 inches in length, following the techniques outlined in the Building Block Dress Book. Since I envisioned three distinct color blocks, I measured the total front length after adding seam allowances and divided it into thirds to determine the boundaries for each section.

Once I had the measurements, I referred to the Building Block Dress Book for guidance on color blocking. Using these instructions, I sketched the new lines, added seam allowances to the revised pieces, and cut out my fabric. After assembling the skirt panels, I simply followed the original Cartwheel Wrap Dress instructions to complete the dress.

I must say, I absolutely adore how this dress turned out! The process itself was enjoyable, especially when working on the shoulder and underarm areas—it truly felt like sewing magic. If you've tried it, you’ll know exactly what I mean!

Thank you for joining me today! I hope this inspires you to try color blocking with your own Cartwheel Wrap Dresses. And who knows? You might even come up with some unique combinations of your own.

Before I go, don't forget to check out our collection of ten color blocking tutorials if you're looking for more ideas. They’re packed with inspiration and step-by-step guidance.
