During the 11th Golden Week, Chongqing's consumer goods market remained well-supplied, with stable prices and a surge in shopping activities. According to preliminary data from the Municipal Committee of Commerce, total retail sales in the city's main commercial areas and key enterprises reached 5.359 billion yuan over the seven-day holiday, marking a year-on-year increase of 22.1%. Among the 16 monitored commercial outlets and 10 catering businesses, total retail sales amounted to 2.746 billion yuan, rising by 16.8% compared to the previous year. Major department stores such as Heavy Hundred Buildings, New Century Department Store, and Wangfujing Department Store launched discounts and rewards to attract customers. Apparel sales continued to rise, with eight monitored department stores achieving 1.076 billion yuan in total sales, of which 40% came from clothing. Electrical goods also saw a significant boost during the Golden Week, especially due to the government's "old-for-new" initiative. Sales of home appliances rose by 14.9% year-on-year, with color TVs, refrigerators, and washing machines accounting for over 50% of total sales. Digital products and computers saw growth of more than 30%. Gold and silver jewelry also experienced a strong performance, with brands like Longfeng Jewelry and Aidekang Jewelry launching special promotions. At Wangfujing Department Store, sales of gold and silver jewelry jumped by 83.5% year-on-year. The automotive market saw a surge in activity, with many high-income professionals taking advantage of the long holiday to purchase vehicles. Favorable national policies and heavy discounts at dealerships encouraged more customers to visit and place orders. According to the Municipal Committee of Commerce, car sales in Southwest China and PepsiCo increased by 49.1% and 82.7% respectively, with small-displacement cars (under 1.6L) making up about 30% of sales. SUVs and off-road vehicles also saw significant growth, with sales rising by over 40% year-on-year. In the catering sector, banquet consumption accounted for more than half of restaurant turnover. Wedding banquets, family dinners, and group meals remained key drivers of demand. Restaurants and food courts were fully booked during the holiday. Ten monitored food and beverage companies achieved 26.93 million yuan in turnover, a 11.8% increase from last year. Lastly, rural tourism and agritourism emerged as a popular choice for locals seeking relaxation. Farm-style accommodations combined leisure, dining, and travel, offering a fresh alternative to traditional urban shopping. In Shapingba District, Maple Garden Farm earned 330,000 yuan in turnover, a 20.9% increase, while Yubei District’s Shuangyu Park Farm saw a 25% rise in sales.
