Two tips for English quotes

Quotations are a lot of tricks. The difference in tone and expression may result in different business outcomes. Here are two tips for quoting.

(I) It is a condition of this letter that the name of this Bank will not be disclosed in the event of our report being passed on to your clients.

Translation: There is a condition in this letter that you should not disclose the name of the Bank when transferring our report to your customers.

This passage is a letter from the bank responding to a consultation. Such a reply usually consists of three parts:

1) State the facts;

2) express opinions;

3) Remind the other party that the information provided is top secret. The above sentence belongs to the third part.

The it in this sentence is a formal subject whose subject is that... clause.

Other expressions:

1. Please note that this information is furnished without any responsibility on our part and should be held strictly confidential.

2. Please note that the information is furnished at your request without any responsibility whatsoever on the part of this Bank or on any of its officers.

3. May we ask that you treat this information as strictly confidential without responsibility on our part.

(2) Should you be prepared to reduce your limit by, say 10%, we might come to terms.

Translation: If you are willing to cut the price, for example, by 10%, you may be able to close the deal.

This sentence is a sentence commonly used in bargaining. In the negotiations between the two sides, price is a very important link, and arbitrarily proposing your own opinions can put yourself in an active position.

Say 10% is let us say 10% simplification.

Be prepared to... Prepare to do things, for example: We are not prepared to change the terms.

Limit n. (in the foreign trade business is sometimes used to refer to the price, that is, the price limit), for example: Your limit is too high to permit business.
