weekend links, rachel edition
Hi there, and happy Friday! Liesl is over in London this weekend for a quick getaway, so she couldn’t put together her regular weekend links. Since Liesl is traveling, I thought I'd share some of my personal picks for the weekend.
Even though Fashion Revolution Week is officially over for this year, I thoroughly enjoyed all the community spirit it brought. It reminded me that I really need to fix my favorite pair of jeans, which have seen better days and now have a noticeable hole. I've been thinking about trying visible mending, specifically Sashiko stitching, like Katrina Rodabaugh does. Her work is incredible, and I’ve been following her on Instagram. If you’re not already following her, you definitely should be! She runs workshops on visible mending, but unfortunately, none are happening near me. I'm secretly hoping Creativebug will reach out to her to create some video classes. Also, her blog post titled "Slow Fashion is a Revolution" is a must-read!

By the way, speaking of Sashiko, I've been eyeing this book and can't wait to find a cool Sashiko design to create something amazing, just like Sara did.
About a year or so ago, my daughter started reading the Sew Zoey book series. These books are targeted at girls aged eight to twelve, and the latest book in the series was released just last month. Here's the gist: Zoey’s middle school decides to drop the school uniform policy, and Zoey struggles to find clothes she likes. So, she starts designing and sewing her own outfits, launches a sewing blog, and even opens an Etsy shop. The book titles are super cute.

Recently, my daughter got this adorable LEGO Friends set featuring a sewing machine, scissors, a camera, and a laptop. The product description says: “Emma is making beautiful hair bows to sell on her online store. Check the sewing pattern on her whiteboard and use the sticky notes to jot down any changes or new ideas. Then it’s time to start cutting. Which color will make the best bows? Help Emma transform her designs into stunning creations ready for purchase—she just needs to take pictures and upload them to her website.†Make sure to check out the cute one-minute video. This set makes me think of the Felt Bows, free pattern, and tutorial.

Next month, May, brings back the Great British Sewing Bee. Season four was supposed to start on May 5th, but it seems to have been pushed back a bit. I’m a huge fan of the show and can’t wait to catch it. Last year, we were lucky enough to have Matt Chapple from season three and Lauren Guthrie from season one visit us. Did you know that Lauren had her first baby this month?

**Interesting Finds from Around the Web**
- Old jeans can be transformed into new shoes! I’ve been searching for some good hiking shoes, and stumbled upon this article about recycling jeans before they end up in the trash. It’s such a great idea.
- Speaking of feet, I absolutely love my socks from Little River Sock Mill. They're all organic cotton and made right here in the USA. Highly recommended!
- Watch this video about an artist who repairs torn clothes for free on San Francisco sidewalks. He’s been “mending for the people†since 2002!
- Here’s a cute cat alphabet in hand embroidery. Isn’t it adorable?
- Ever heard of “Cat Island†in Japan? Watching this one-minute video inspired me to want to visit someday.
- Edible cutlery—imagine eating your utensils after using them! Brilliant, right?
- Hancock Fabrics is closing its doors. If you live in the US, now’s the perfect time to visit and stock up on sewing tools and supplies before it’s too late.
- Just a friendly reminder that Me Made May kicks off this weekend. It’s been happening since 2010! Share pics of yourself wearing handmade garments on Instagram using the hashtag #MMMay16.
Have a fantastic weekend!
