verdun woven t-shirt in three fabrics

Virginia, a fresh addition to our Advisors Circle, has crafted the Verdun Woven T-Shirt in three distinct fabrics. Here she is showcasing all three versions for your consideration. "I was searching for a top that could be both casual and somewhat dressier to pair with my jeans, and the Verdun Woven T-Shirt proved to be exactly what I needed. It’s incredibly straightforward and fast to sew, and as usual, the instructions were excellent." ![Virginia made up the Verdun Woven T-Shirt in three fabrics.](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/33ca5d3bcff76192bd08e75b4ebafea0.jpg) Taking into account my measurements, I opted to sew a medium size and adjusted it to a larger size at the hips. I wanted to ensure the fit was just right before committing to a more premium fabric, so I chose a cotton poplin from my fabric stash for a trial run. Unfortunately, I discovered I had incorrectly cut the hem facings, which didn’t align properly. Deciding to go with a simple double-folded hem similar to the sleeves, it turned out well. Although I enjoyed the cotton poplin version, its stiffness led to noticeable wrinkles across the front. Next, I experimented with a floral crepe fabric, which felt much softer and draped beautifully. Based on the fit of the previous version, I concluded I didn’t need to adjust the hips and stuck with a straight medium size. This version is far more comfortable and fits my body exceptionally well. However, the fabric isn’t very breathable, making it less ideal for our Australian summers. It’ll be perfect for cooler weather paired with a cozy cardigan. For my third attempt, I sourced a striped cotton-linen blend from Spotlight. I wanted to ensure the stripes aligned perfectly, especially on the most visible areas of the shirt—like the shoulders. Instead of cutting the pattern pieces on the fold, I traced the full front and back pieces. To align the stripes accurately, I marked the center of the top and bottom of each pattern and ensured a blue stripe ran directly through those lines. I also sketched the blue stripes on the shoulders of the front pattern and transferred these markings to the back pieces to maintain symmetry. ![Virginia made up the Verdun Woven T-Shirt in three fabrics.](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/d8c1388ce661e24a2fac9d21b101f558.jpg) When cutting the facings, I paid close attention to ensure the stripes matched seamlessly. In lightweight fabrics like this one, any misalignment would be glaringly obvious. For the pocket, I cut the stripes horizontally rather than vertically to introduce an element of visual interest. Since my fabric featured yarn-dyed stripes, it was relatively easy to match them while pinning. To double-check the alignment, I hand-basted the shoulders before sewing them together on the machine. The outcome exceeded my expectations. While aligning the stripes was the most time-intensive part of making this version, it was absolutely worth it. This particular version is now my favorite. It’s incredibly comfortable, and I’m confident I’ll be wearing it frequently throughout the remainder of summer. ![Virginia made up the Verdun Woven T-Shirt in three fabrics.](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/a70b5cccdf62a93aca434c7c17ebba0f.jpg) I adore this pattern and have no doubt I’ll be creating numerous more versions of the Verdun Woven T-Shirt in the coming months. --- After sharing my experience with the Verdun Woven T-Shirt, I’ve received some feedback from fellow sewists who are curious about how the fit compares between different fabrics. Some have mentioned they’re hesitant to try the pattern because they’re unsure if it will work for their body type. For those who might feel the same way, I’d encourage you to trust the process. Even though I initially thought I needed to grade the hips, I learned that sometimes the original size works just fine. And remember, the beauty of sewing lies in the ability to customize and adapt patterns to suit your unique needs. If you’re thinking about giving the Verdun a shot, don’t hesitate! You might discover a new favorite wardrobe staple, just like I did.
